Computer Based Training/Remote Learning

CBT is a growing field in the education technology arena which, although not a cure all for all situations, offers some distinct advantages over conventional training methods.

CBT has 4 distinct advantages. First, it can simulate real life events in a dynamic fashion. For example, training on complex control systems can be simulated, giving the student practical practice with review.

Second, in situations where fixed content must be delivered to large numbers of individuals or given to people spread over large geographical areas, CBT when combined with remote learning offers cost effective alternatives to classroom situations.

Third, CBT offers the ability to insure that content is delivered and that fact can be documented. Further CBT can force 100% learning through interactive questioning as the training progresses. This can be invaluable where trainers must insure that students have both been presented the material, but must also insure that the student understands it as well.

Fourth, in situations such as the above, CBT is typically more effective in both cost and learning retention than other methods.

Multi-Media Design has been involved in several CBT training projects including a Russian language program as well as several medical training programs. The premiere nursing web site ResourceNurse.Com is a perfect example of remote learning. ResourceNurse offers a wide range of CE content for nurses and through a sister site offers custom programming for healthcare facilities.

ResourceNurse.Com is driven by MMD's CompletED™ software. Due to strict quality assurance requirements by the ANCC which awards CE credit hours for nursing content, the Completed™ software package features a wide range of auditing and reporting functions. Further the software is content type independent and will support virtually any program format which is web deliverable. This allows for adoption of new media types as they become available.

MMD's Patient Individual Education System (PIE)™ is designed to reduce the patient teaching time spent by expensive professional clinical personnel. The PIE™ can be either computer or Interactive-DVD based depending on requirements. Depending on the particular subject, PIE™ can reduce per patient teaching costs by $100. All programs are custom designed so that patients see or the exact equipment and materials used in the facility.
